Cream Wafers Recipe

Ingredients

For the Wafers:

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • ⅓ cup whipping cream (35% butterfat)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Granulated sugar, for coating

Creamy Butter Filling:

  • ¼ cup softened butter
  • ¾ cup sifted confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: pink or green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, thoroughly mix the butter, whipping cream, and flour. Chill for 1 hour to make the dough easier to handle.

  2. Preheat and Roll: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to about ⅛ inch thickness.

  3. Cut and Coat: Use your 3D-printed cookie cutters to cut the dough into your desired shapes. Transfer the shapes to waxed paper that has been generously sprinkled with granulated sugar, turning each piece to coat both sides.

  4. Bake: Place the coated shapes on an un-greased baking sheet and prick each piece in four places with a fork. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, or until the cookies are just slightly puffy.

  5. Prepare the Filling: While the cookies cool, blend the butter, confectioners' sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Tint with pink or green food coloring if desired.

  6. Assemble: Once the cookies are cool, sandwich two wafers together with a bit of the creamy filling.

This recipe yields about five dozen 1½-inch cookies, perfect for a crowd! These wafer cookies will highlight the detail of any custom shape, making them as delightful to look at as they are to eat.
